KETSANA (Local Name “ONDOY”) RELIEF : CALL FOR HELP
Affected areas of Typhoon Ondoy are in need of the following :
1. Within the next three to four days (Sept. 28-Oct. 1), ready-to-eat food which do not need to be cooked like boiled eggs, sandwiches, cooked rice, sardines, tuna, meatloaf, bread, margarine, peanut butter. They also need bottled water, everyday clothes (including underwear) for both adults and children. Please send mats for the families to sleep on.
2. By October 2, please prepare food packs of canned goods, rice, instant mami, instant pancit canton, bread and bottled water.
You can bring all goods to Operation GK Walang Iwanan Headquarters at RFM Gym along Pioneer St., Mandaluyong City (contact person : Raul Dizon 0917-888-8109).

GK OPERATION WALANG IWANAN (TYPHOON ONDOY) UPDATES
September 27 - Generally, after rounds made in GK sites in Quezon City, our Kapitbahayans’ homes are intact except for one which sustained minor structural damages due to a wall that gave way. What our communities are experiencing right now, caused by the major flooding, are damages to property (furniture and appliances), clothes, food and some physical and psychological trauma. Our GK villages are likewise being mobilized to be relief centers to the surrounding badly affected slum areas. In GK Brookside alone (Barangay Bagong Silangan), other areas around it sustained, at last count, 70 deaths because of homes being swept away by the huge swell and rush of flood water.
We are still awaiting reports and updates from nearby provinces to Metro Manila which are also hard-hit but we haven’t been able to reach them via phone. We have heard from the media re: badly hit areas in Bulacan, Rizal and Pampanga.
Many have responded to the call for volunteers, mobilizing at Ateneo. Relief goods were delivered to all GK and non-GK Quezon City affected communities : GK Tatalon (420 families) - Block 245, STC, Tagalog, Don Manuel; GK Brookside (400 families); GK Melchora (200 families); GK Pag-Asa (100 families); GK Sitio Pajo (400 families);and, GK Sitio Ruby (300 families).
September 28 - Other reported affected areas are as follows : GK Camacho (Marikina), GK Pinagsama (Taguig City), GK Selecta (Rizal), GK Caliuag (Pasig) and GK PBA (Pateros). As of 9:00 am, relief goods were delivered to GK Camacho for 500 families. Only 60 families live in our GK village but it has become the relief center for the surrounding communities.
In the next 2 weeks, Gawad Kalinga and our partners will do relief, clean up and rehabilitation work in as many communities as we can, leading up to a simple but meaningful thanksgiving Expo on October 10.
